From Paddock to Plate was born from a popular radio series called ‘The Cold Esky Challenge’ that Louise started in the South West of Western Australia (one of the country’s largest food bowls) on ABC Rural in 2008. With an esky under one arm and a map under the other, Louise embarked on an epic eight-month journey through the region to discover some of the finest produce she had ever tasted. Since that adventure, her From Paddock to Plate brand has grown into an extensive educational platform to teach people about where their food comes from and how it is produced.
Louise authored her first book in 2011, ‘From Paddock to Plate – Recipes from Australian Providores’, published by ABC Books with foreword by Valli Little of ABC Delicious. Louise is currently writing her second book. She can be contacted for those wishing to order her book.
In 2013, Louise produced and presented the From Paddock to Plate Schools Program, which is an eight-part video series accompanied by worksheets and recipes for teachers around Australia for use as a resource to educate students about food origin. Find out more about this Program and how you can purchase this resource by visiting the From Paddock to Plate website: www.frompaddocktoplate.com.au
Louise has also just developed and released a mobile app called ‘Paddock2Plate’, which is free to download from the App Store. This app allows you to map your own food trails anywhere in Australia, from farm gate to farm gate, buying produce from the farmers directly.
She organises and hosts From Paddock to Plate stages at major food events in Australia including Gourmet Escape, The Royal Melbourne Show, The West Live, Truffle Kerfuffle, South West Food Bowl Festival, Grampians Grape Escape and Melbourne’s Good Food & Wine Show.
Louise pioneered a farmers’ market accreditation program in Western Australia.
